When it comes to the packaging of optical modules,the most commonly used packages are SFP and SFP+.What are the packages of optical modules.According to the package type,optical modules are mainly divided into:1*9,SFP,SFP+,X2,xenpak,XFP,SFP 28,qsfp+,qsfp-dd.What's the difference between them?Let's have a look.

　　1、1*9

　　The packaged 1*9 optical module has 9 pin angles,so it is also called 9-pin or 9-pin optical module.The soldered optical module mainly adopts SC interface,and the general speed is 10m,155m,622m and 1.25g.

　　2、SFP

　　Packaged as SFP optical module,the interfaces are LC and SC,belonging to small pluggable optical module,which can be divided into 155m,622m,1.25g and 2.5G according to the speed.The wavelengths are generally divided into 850nm,1310nm,1550nm and 1490nm.The wavelength of 850nm is SFP multimode,and the transmission distance is usually less than 2km.The wavelength of 1310nm,1490nm and 1550nm is single mode,and the transmission distance is more than 2km.

　　3、SFP+

　　SFP+is an upgraded version of SFP,with rates of 6G,8g,10g and 16g.Compared with XFP,SFP+is smaller in size.The transmission wavelength is usually 850nm,1310nm or 1550nm,and the maximum transmission rate supports 10Gbit/s.

　　4、XENPAK

　　The optical module of xenpak package has large volume and power consumption.It is a standardized package of 10G Ethernet optical converter and an early 10 Gigabit optical module.

　　5、X2

　　The X2 encapsulated optical module can support hot plug.It is developed from xenpak and has a smaller volume.It is an optical module with a 10Gbit/s transmission rate.It is mainly used in routers and switches with network connection ports and Ethernet x2 ports.

　　6、XFP

　　The 10G Optical module in XFP package is a hot pluggable optical transceiver independent of communication protocol.The operating wavelength is 850nm,1310nm or 1550nm,and high density is achieved by using LC connectors.

　　7、SFP28

　　The package SFP 28 has the same size as SFP+,which is an enhanced version of the package SFP+,and can support a single channel 25gb/s rate.It is widely used in 25g Ethernet and 100g(4x25gbps)Ethernet.

　　8、QSFP+

　　The qsfp+packaged optical module is a four channel small hot pluggable optical module with four 10g channels and a transmission rate of 40Gbps.The interface type is usually LC interface or MPO/MTP interface,which conforms to 40g Ethernet and other standards.

　　9、QSFP28

　　The optical module encapsulated by qsfp28 can support 4-channel transmission,and the data rate of each channel is 25gbit/s.due to its advantages of low cost and power consumption,it has become the main encapsulation method of 100g network.

　　10、QSFP-DD

　　The optical module of qsfp-dd package has a high density.Compared with the optical module of qsfp28 package,the port speed is increased by 4 times,and the number of high-speed electrical interfaces supported is doubled.Secondly,the bandwidth of qsfp-dd can reach up to ten times of qsfp+or four times of qsfp28.It can provide eight channel electrical interfaces,and adopts double density four channel small pluggable packages,which is more suitable for short-distance data centers.
