How is Servo Motor Different from a Stepper Motor?
publié le 04/11/2022 à 10:41 |
A stepper motor is a brushless DC motor which is used to provide precise control over the position of an object. The device can be used in many applications where precise positioning is required. It is often used in printers, scanners, and other office equipment. They are also widely used for industrial automation, robotics, and CNC machines.
A stepper motor contains multiple electromagnets that are controlled by a controller with input from a computer or other electronic device. The controller sends current to the electromagnets at different strengths and rotates the shaft accordingly.
Servo motors for sale are small and efficient but critical for use in applications requiring precise position control. The servo motor is controlled by a signal (data) better known as a pulse-width modulator (PWM). Here are several of the more common servo motor applications in use today.
Comparison of DC Steppers vs. Servo Motors vs. AC / Unipolar Steppers
DC Steppers are the most common type of stepping motors. They are driven by a DC power source and the direction of rotation is determined by the polarity of the voltage applied to the coils. The speed can be varied by changing the voltage applied.
Servo Motors are used in applications where precise control of position is needed, such as machine tools, robotics, and automation equipment. The position of a servo motor is controlled by an electronic circuit which varies its power supply to achieve a desired torque or speed. Servo motors can be positioned precisely because they have feedback built into their design which allows them to maintain their position without overshoot or oscillation.
AC / Unipolar Steppers are used in applications where precise control of position is not required and cost is paramount, such as in amusement rides, vending machines, and other low-precision devices. AC stepping motors produce less noise than DC steppers because they use a sinusoidal waveform rather than square waves.
