  • ‘Killer Heels’ exhibit is a world of fashion and fetishes
    publié le 29/06/2015 à 05:25

“Aeronaut Pilot of Survivor Ship Armada, Decision” is an installation by Virgil Ortiz in the “Killer Heels” show.

When TV’s Ed Sullivan greeted viewers he often said “Tonight we have a really big shoe” or at least that’s the way it sounded.

The Albuquerque Museum’s “Killer Heels – The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe” exhibition is a really big show, or as Sullivan put it, “shoe.”

With more than 160 pairs of historic, high-fashion, kitsch and far-beyond-the-real-world shoe designs and videos, “Killer Heels” is a knock-down-drag-out romp through the world of fashion, fetishes, feelings and foolishness guaranteed to entertain and maybe even edify escape

  • Julia wins fashion crown in a special ‘$75,000’ dress
    publié le 17/06/2015 à 09:57

IT'S not every day you get to wear a dress worth $75,000 to the races, so luckily for Julia Watson, it paid off.

Ms Watson was named the Most Stylish at the Coopers' Girls Grammar Race Day at Rockhampton's Callaghan Park on Saturday and it was all thanks to a very special dress.

Labelled "the frock that keeps on giving", the amazing red cape dress Ms Watson wore, teamed with a custom-made textured Italian leather Zarbella millinery piece with block shapes, came with an interesting tale.

Ms Watson said the cape was kindly donated by Ellis Ng Crews, after she won the Caulfield Cup Fashions on the Field, to Angela McCormick for the Lismore Dance for

  • Hair care: the salon wagon taking the stigma out of fitting a wig
    publié le 15/06/2015 à 06:14

When clients of Demitri Jones, a former manager at the Cobella hair and beauty salon in Selfridges, expressed concern at wearing a wig in public for the first time, he would take off his badge and walk around the store with them to convince them that they looked natural.

“We would walk around and I’d say: ‘Look, no one is looking, no one notices, we’re just blending in with everyone around us,’” says Jones. “Katy Perry and Beyoncé wear so many different wigs, it has completely taken away any stigma associated with wearing one, but people are still worried.”

Jones, a stylist with 15 years’ experience specialising in wigs and hair extensions, has worked fo

  • 3D Printed Shoes Challenge Boundaries Separating Fashion, Sculpture, and Architecture
    publié le 11/06/2015 à 11:32

When it comes to shoes, I have always been fairly practical. I mean, I try to avoid anything that makes me look like I have troglodyte-foot, but in general, I favor comfort far more than discomfort, and so any news about customized 3D printed athletic style shoes made from foot scanning is right up my alley. But, yes, then there’s also the fashion design side of 3D printing that I am equally fascinated by. This next project may appear far from 3D designed and printed shoe comfort, but it is comforting to know designers exist willing to take risks with the always risky topic of the female shoe form.

  • British Brand Wants To Revolutionize Fashion By Turning You Into The Designer
    publié le 09/06/2015 à 05:07

When you get a new shirt or pair of pants, the process is typically the same. Browse your favorite online or brick-and-mortar store, hem and haw over how it makes you look (great, of course!), add to cart, checkout. The retailer has decided what items are on offer and you're limited to the designs someone else has deemed worthy enough to produce.

Knyttan, a startup based in London, wants to throw a wrench in this ecosystem and bring mass customization to the world of fashion.

"Designers creating products have been on a pedestal where they made all the decisions; now customers are allowed to change things to their liking," says Hal Watts, a cofounder, alo
