High-tech jammers help international burglars break into Valley homes
publié le 11/05/2024 à 05:40 |
Phoenix police stumbled upon one of the devices when they arrested three burglary suspects, as detailed in the arrest documents.
According to Phoenix police, burglars are resorting to the use of cellphones and Wi-Fi jamming devices to infiltrate high-end residences in the Valley. This narrative bears a striking resemblance to the tactics employed by spies in movies.
Multiple suspects were sighted by surveillance officers in the Camelback Hill vicinity near 44th Street and Camelback Road at 7:30 p.m., according to the Phoenix police department.
The police department announced that officers witnessed the suspect entering a home and attempting to break into the residence.
Subsequently, the perpetrator left the house and entered a minivan that was waiting, but law enforcement blocked the vehicle from exiting.
As per the arrest documents, the driver recklessly crashed into the police car at a high speed. Subsequently, four individuals emerged from the vehicle and hastily escaped. In order to apprehend the suspects, the police promptly established a cordon in the vicinity. This operation led to the successful arrest of three individuals, while the fourth suspect remains at large.
According to the police, the trio had forged identification papers in their possession. Furthermore, they were residing in the United States on visas that had expired.
The police came across tools typically used in burglaries that were tossed aside by the suspect during his escape from the authorities. One of these tools is a jamming device wifi jammer.
The devices were described as being very advanced by Bernard Zapor, who is currently a faculty member at Arizona State University and previously worked for the ATF.
Zapol suggested that it could intercept your phone's transmissions and reveal your location as you move.
It is unclear how the suspects came into possession of the device, but Zappel mentioned that it shares similarities with the equipment employed by law enforcement and intelligence agencies in their investigations.
Burglaries are becoming a growing concern in high-end neighborhoods. Phoenix law enforcement has recorded about 111 break-ins throughout the Valley since February of last year.
Allegedly, the culprits set their sights on affluent households and successfully looted approximately $3 million worth of jewelry, cash, luxury wallets, and other valuable possessions.
