CROWN POINT | When Mary Therese Bean first saw the custom-designed outfit for her daughter Molly’s golden birthday she found it “perfect.”

“The headband was so delicate looking and small, perfect for her,” Bean said. “She prefers the small headbands. I talked with Beth on what I would like with the dress. I trusted her to add the design elements and headband style.”

The dress designed for Molly was a light teal and gold tulle outfit. The headband was a small handmade flower, a mini birdcage type of design, the Crown Point mom said.

“We wanted gold accents since it is her golden birthday,” Bean said. “They also made a custom onesie with a gold No. 1 and black tutu for her birthday party.”

Pockets Full of Glitter Children’s Boutique focuses on putting smiles on little girls’ faces, owner Elisabeth Mulcahy said.

“We specialize in birthday outfits, flower girl dresses, tutus, headpieces, and boutique clothing,” Mulcahy said. “The best part to me personally is when I finish a little girl’s birthday outfit and I get to see the smile on her face or the pure excitement it gives her to be in a beautiful dress or outfit.”

Mulcahy said she enjoys collaborating with parents on the perfect outfit for their child’s special day.

“They love the fact they are able to come in and design their own items in a professional and courteous environment,” Mulcahy said.

Located at 192 W. Joliet St., Pockets Full of Glitter Children’s Boutique will hold its grand opening May 9. The boutique carries tutus, feather skirts, petti skirts, tutu dresses, custom embroidery, custom pressed designs, petti rompers, boutique clothing, headpieces, bows, headbands, bloomers, scarves, leg warmers and "anything girly,” Mulcahy said.

The current trend for flower girl dress is “simple but modern” meaning lace, feathers and flowers, she said, and for birthday outfits the trend is bright colors along with TV character and princess designs.

Mulcahy said her business philosophy contains many elements.

“But there are four key components that I emphasize with the running of Pockets Full of Glitter,” Mulcahy said. “They are: customer service, professionalism, quality and efficiency. These are also key components I hope my children learn from me.”

Mulcahy said her mother Lauren Peterson has been her inspiration.

“My mom has not only shown me but has (also) taught me that hard work and dedication will get you where you want to be in life,” Mulcahy said.

“My mother was a young mom who put herself through school earning a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree with the support of my dad while also raising four children. I can only hope that my children have the amount of respect for me, that I have for my mom.”

A mother of five, Mulcahy said her children are her biggest inspiration and motivation.

“My husband has always been my No. 1 fan and supported (me) through all of my endeavors,” Mulcahy said. “We can’t forget my close friend, Stephanie Mears, who keeps me going every day and helps me keep the store running on a daily basis.”

Mulcahy said she was drawn to her shop location because “Crown Point’s atmosphere and nostalgia of a small town had the perfect boutique feel for my small business.”

Mulcahy has donated dresses to a local fashion show and clothing items and bows to local hospitals.

“We are looking forward to doing more community services in the future,” Mulcahy said. Pockets Full of Glitter Children’s Boutique will participatw in a local fashion show and two bridal shows.
