United States Air Force Seeks a New Generation of Laser Weapons Research Proposal

According to media reports in January 15th, January 5th, the air force research laboratory Directed Energy Council (AFRL/RDL) laser division in federal business opportunities (FedBizOpps) website published a tactical combat aircraft cheap laser pointer self protection system (RFP), RFP for the next generation of compact laser environment improvement "(LANCE) project research proposals the purpose is to integrate the current and future defensive laser weapons on the fighter.

RFP said, "the goal of LANCE is to pass the necessary research and development, design, manufacturing, laser delivery and reliable and durable high-power (with excellent beam quality and compact design), to integrate the dynamic integrated structure in the gas (Aerodynamic Integrating Structure), for the self protection of high-energy burning laser demonstrator in tactics the aircraft during flight testing (SHiELD) advanced technology demonstration (ATD) defense of the second phase of the study." At this stage, the air force research laboratory directed research program of the Council of laser division is pursuing innovation, in order to promote the development of the most advanced laser technology, high power laser performance verification of compact, durable, and even possible in fighter transonic supersonic flight, the potential for all incoming threats the geometric characteristics of the laser operational utility evaluation.
