Translucent Silicone - An Overview
publié le 25/08/2021 à 08:31 |
Product Description: Translucent Silicone has the potential to save companies millions of dollars per year in maintenance and replacement costs of mechanical seals. This silicone rubber product comes in a variety of different textures depending on the intended application. It is translucent, meaning that it has a translucent appearance, just like clear glass when looking at it through a window. Silicone rubber sealants are used for securing and limiting the flow of liquid, vapor, or gas through specific openings or areas within an overall building structure. They can also be used to prevent oil and other chemical leaks from penetrating the seal to provide protection from harm and the spread of harmful bacteria and mold.
Benefits of Translucent Silicone: Translucent Silicone (TSP) is a low density, chemically inert, transmittable, open cell construction grade silicone rubber product that are used in industrial, scientific, and medical applications for sealing and controlling access points, vapor barriers, temperature ranges, and sealing applications. Upon exposure to environmental moisture, this unique, translucent silicone rubber develops a strong, flexible, self-sealing silicone film that contracts to a plastic like consistency. This film maintains a specific amount of tensile strength across the width of the silicone rubber because it is "stretchy" in nature, which is similar to rubber. This property provides a multitude of useful uses including protecting structures from adverse weather changes.
Material Features: Translucent Silicone (TSP) is made from high quality silicone polymers with excellent thermal conductivity and thermal insulation properties. The resistance to heat expansion and contraction throughout any range of temperature is what makes Translucent silicone ideal for a wide variety of thermal applications. Its excellent chemical and physical properties allow it to maintain a rigid structure even under extreme temperatures, up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, and has a smooth feel. It is also resistant to ozone and UV damage, as well as flame and sparks. In addition, it is clear to the eye and translucent to the sense, both of which contribute to its versatility when used for many applications. The unique properties of TSP allow it to be used in a variety of seals, with its flexibility providing numerous design options and its flexibility providing ease of application and great flexibility.
Design Features: In order to create the seamless, translucent silicone rubber seal, several different silicone rubber compound grades are combined to achieve the best possible seal. Two of the most popular grades are "A" and "D" grade silicone rubber because of their excellent tensile strengths and flexibility. By combining grades A and D, Translucent Silicone seals can be used in wide variety of applications such as:
Other silicone rubber products available include high quality silicone pigments and additives. Silicone Pigments offer a wide range of color options ranging from red to blue to green, and various other options such as silver, gold, bronze, pink, or other metallic colors, and a wide range of imitation colors. Other additives offer an improved texture as well as additional protection. Whether you are looking for a smooth, glossy, silky, wispy, pearl-like appearance, or you prefer a matte, mirror-like appearance, silicone additives can help to achieve the look you desire.
There are some drawbacks to using translucent color chips and silicone sealants. The main drawback is that it is not feasible to colorize all of the exterior surfaces of a molding. Translucent color chips will not work for those areas that are exposed and touched upon by customers during the process of molding. However, using silicone color chips for textured areas such as a silicone "gasket" or in between areas that are molded together is acceptable. Finally, silicone pigments must be allowed to dry before use, as excess heat promotes the disintegration of the pigment.
