Wordle Alternatives That Go Beyond 5 Letter Words
publié le 01/12/2022 à 05:27 |
Wordle needs no introduction at this time, having taken the internet by storm and then been purchased by the New York Times for a seven-figure price. We love Wordle, a game that's both easy and addicting, but there's a whole universe of puzzlers out there that go beyond the standard 5x6 grid of letters.
In this section, we'll introduce you to some of our favorite choices, ranging from arithmetic to geography. Whether you simply want to take a vacation from Wordle or you never want to play the original game again, there's a good chance you'll find something interesting on this list.
Redactle is a little different from the standard, and we appreciate the twist it's placed on the fundamental Wordle concept. The goal here is to predict which words have been censored from a random Wikipedia page. It's difficult to get started since there isn't much to go on, but it becomes simpler as you fill in more words and can understand what the piece is about.
If Wordle has become too simple for you, try Quordle. It's built on the same concept as Wordle, and it's also based on five-letter words, but this time there are four of them to go through, for a total of nine guesses—which adds a lot more difficulty since you're attempting to keep track of four separate Wordles at the same time.
Nerdle lets you swap words for sums by guessing computations in a Wordle-like fashion—and there's usually an equals sign in there somewhere. As with Wordle, each guess provides an indication about how close you are to the answer, however the coloring is somewhat different. It's a fun way to put your math skills to the test or re-learn them.
Squardle is not a game for the faint of heart. There are a lot of instructions to remember, a large board to work with, and a slew of hints to consider when you begin guessing letters to form words. In addition to the yellow and green tiles provided by Wordle, there are red, orange, and black indications to consider.
Semantle is for for individuals who seek a severe challenge from their Wordle-like puzzles. The concept is that you attempt to predict a word based on how semantically close it is to prior guesses, and it takes some getting accustomed to. You must also be able to think laterally in order to make connections between words.
Heardle challenges you to identify a song from on its introduction: You get one second to start (well done if you recognize the song immediately away) and up to 16 seconds total. If you just want more time, you may skip a guess, but this counts as one of the six tries allowed to identify the tune, which is drawn from a database of famous songs.
Wordle is extended for a longer amount of time by Absurdle. The color coding is the same, but every time you guess incorrectly, the answer to the problem changes—and you have an infinite number of attempts to guess correctly. It works better in practice than it seems from the description.
