Fairfield Ludlowe High School celebrated its 8th successful annual PTA fundraiser last Sunday. This event is the school’s largest fundraiser as proceeds directly benefit many time-honored school programs including Scholarships, Teaching and Learning Grants, Freshmen Picnic, Post Prom Parties and more.

Project Runway Falcon Edition features an exciting afternoon fashion show, as more than 80 senior class students and 10 faculty members strut their stuff and sashay down the runway, modeling the latest in designer apparel lent by local retail merchants.

“We are grateful to the PTA and the organizers of this event since the proceeds come right back to impact our students and teachers in a positive way,” said Headmaster and tuxedo-clad Master of Ceremonies Greg Hatzis. “We are also thankful of the support of local vendors who participate. This is a very special event for the seniors. It allows them to shine in a different setting from the classroom. They have worked incredibly hard for the past four years and Project Runway is a great chance for them to celebrate all they have accomplished while having a lot of fun. It’s also a great community event.”

Seventeen supportive Fairfield retailers generously loaned chic ensembles to the more than 80 models and spent countless hours on fittings and style consultations, ensuring a show-stopping production. Project Runway is grateful for the participation of the retailers who are located in both Fairfield and Westport; Anthropology, Apricot Lane, The Authentic Athlete, Capri, Camillo tuxedo, Dress Code, GAP, Giuliana Boutique, Island Outfitters, J. McLaughlin, Just Madras, Letarte, LOFT, Old Navy, Splash of Pink, Teen Scene and Men’s Warehouse.

The committee explained, “there was more to the show than just fashion! Part of Project Runways cache’ was the charismatic Master of Ceremonies, Headmaster Greg Hatzis, whose narration of the Cat Walk Production reflects his irrepressible pride in the students as he shared a brief and spirited, bio of each student.” “It’s a wildly successful fundraiser for the school,” continued Hatzis. “And it shows what a close-knit community we have. It’s truly a team effort!”

Also featured were live performances by numerous talented musicians: Close Harmony, Fairfield Ludlowe High School’s (FLHS) A Capella group and entertainment by Patti O’Meara and Jeff Pearson of FLHS’s Jazz Band. During intermission guests enjoyed delicacies prepared by Culinary Arts students of the Falcon Nest, FLHS’s student-run restaurant and catering services led by Rachel Keleher and generously underwritten by The Pantry. Students enjoyed light-hearted fun as valiant faculty models frolicked down the runway; teacher Ryan Kelly, Dean Kimberly Longobucco, teacher Sharon Meyers, teacher and boys Varsity Lacrosse Coach Christopher Parisi, Athletic Director David Schulz and teacher Laura Tessoro.

Also adding to the fun were numerous impressive gift raffle baskets ranging from shopping sprees and restaurant gift cards to deluxe dorm supply kits and even services donated by the students themselves. In addition to ticket sales and program advertising, the raffle baskets provide an essential contribution to the events proceeds which have netted approximately $7,000 this year.

“We are thrilled that the 8th annual Project Runway is such a huge success,” said Co-chair Debbi O’Keefe. “It’s the largest fundraiser for the school.” Suzie Schroeder, Co-chair concurred adding, “It’s a wonderful event and it is also wonderful for the student body.”
