Dozens of Lanarkshire couples have been left in the lurch by the sudden closure of Norma Ann Photography.

The brides and grooms-to-be were left stunned after receiving a letter from the Glasgow company last week which stated that “after 30 years of being in business we are no longer able to continue trading”.

Newlyweds have also been left wondering if they will ever receive their precious wedding albums and story books.

The firm, which were previously based on Portland Place, Hamilton, before moving to the city a few years ago, was run by Norma Gaughan, 58, and daughter Naomi, 32. But it was director Aria Gaughan, 27, who wrote to customers breaking the news.

In her letter she said: “This is the end of an era for us and we are desperately unhappy that is has come to this and we can no longer photograph your wedding. We are so very sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment caused.

“We sincerely wish you every happiness in the future and with your forthcoming wedding. We have not instructed an insolvency practitioner as we have no funds to do this, however we are happy to work with any insolvency company.”

One bride-to-be took to the Hamilton Advertiser’s Facebook page this week to vent her anger over the situation. Ashleigh Milligan said the letter she received from the company was “pathetic.” She added: “Paid her money for my deposit and now she’s disappeared with it! I now have to look for another photographer.”

Laura Hamilton, of Larkhall, was also left out of pocket. She explained: “I paid my whole balance and my wedding is on Saturday. It’s ridiculous. She could have at least turned up, took a few photos and gave me them on a disc.”

Another soon-to-be bride, who didn’t want to be named, said: “My wedding is in eight weeks and we have been let down. She only took our final balance a few weeks ago! Devastated having lost our money and having to start again.

“It’s actually cost so much when you add up the money we have lost and what we are now having to spend to rectify the situation. It’s such a disgrace.”

The Advertiser tried to contact the firm this week, however, no one returned our email or answered our calls.
