Courteney Cox was given a friendly welcome to Londonderry when she flew into the city with her Snow Patrol fiancé Johnny McDaid.

The 50-year-old actress and her musician beau touched down at City of Derry Airport around 1.30pm yesterday, following a few days in London.

Dressed casually in a wine-coloured top and jeans, the former Friends star posed for a photograph with airport staff Charlene Shongo, communications and marketing manager, and her colleague Siobhan McAnney.

It is understood to be the first time the actress has visited McDaid's native city and has prompted speculation that the couple might be investigating possible venues for their wedding.

Despite her wealth and fame, the down-to-earth star was happy to fly from Stansted with budget airline Ryanair.

Earlier in the week Cox and McDaid were photographed arriving from the States at Heathrow, accompanied by Cox's 10-year-old daughter Coco.

City of Derry Airport tweeted a picture of the actress, looking fresh and relaxed, with her arms around the two staff members.

The photograph was accompanied by the caption: "CoDA was delighted to welcome Courteney Cox following her Ryanair flight from @STN_Airport #friends."

And City of Culture 2013 also took to Twitter to post: "Welcome to LegenDerry @CourteneyCox. Enjoy your stay."

It is understood the couple will spend time with McDaid's musical family in Derry as well as taking in the sights.

The Cougar Town star and 37-year-old McDaid jointly announced their engagement on Twitter in June, after six months of dating.

They were introduced through mutual friend, singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran and were first seen out together at Jennifer Aniston's holiday party in December. Since then they have been inseparable.

McDaid's Snow Patrol band-mates have given the actress their seal of approval, with drummer Jonny Quinn describing her as a "down-to-earth, lovely person".

He is due to fly out to LA next month to visit the couple.

According to sources, Cox and McDaid are considering tying the knot in Ireland, rather than LA.

Just this week Sheeran spoke for the first time about how he fixed his friend up with the renowned actress.

"I go out a lot – to meet people, hang out and bring my friends to house parties," he said.

"This was one of those nights, and I brought Johnny along with me and introduced them. At the end of the night I went home, and he didn't. That was it."
