Ah, springtime, the season when Chicagoans head to ball games, graduation parties, weddings and barbecues. It’s time to say good- bye to that winter coat and get fabulous! Adding an accessory helps you transition from cool weather to warm, and casual outing to fancy.
Start with a necklace. For a daytime look, small, dainty necklaces are popular, and for night, switch to chunky pieces.
“Necklaces with sayings on them are popular this spring,” said Ivy Ippolito, owner of Girlicious in Forest Park. She also points to bird charms and necklaces with tilted bars. For rings, focus on the mid finger and slip three rings on it. Going along with the dainty trend, Ippolito said that small earrings are in style right now, and so are peak-a-boo earrings. As for bracelets, the more you layer your bracelets, the better.
“Scarves are a huge part of our business, even in the spring,” said Mary Kral, manager of Jayne Boutique and Madison Street Shoes, both in Forest Park. “It’s a way to change up an outfit.”
According to Kral, infinfinty scarves are trendy now, especially the paisley infinity scarves. Embroidered scarves are also a big favorite.
At Madison Street Shoes, popular colors include oranges and reds, and multi-colored sandals.
“Metallics and ballet flats are really cute with skinny jeans or leggings,” Kral said. “We have a lot of that as well as Toms. Bright colors and patterns [are popular.]” If you are heading to a Cubs or White Sox game, Ippolito has several baseball hats that have been jazzed up with rhinestones.
“We’re known for our purses,” Ippolito said. “Popular purses are really small or I find people are buying huge bags and using them for travel or beach bags.”
The laser-cut bags are hot right now along with mesh, rhinestones, patent leather or fringed bags.
At Jayne, the big, Jackie O style sunglasses are back in style as are aviator frames in different colors. Kral recommends checking out mint green, orange and pink.
